Providing an Autism-Inclusive Experience

The Bell Centre is proud to provide services and resources to support autistic guests attending hockey games and other events.

While autistic individuals experience autism differently with their own strengths and challenges, the Bell Centre is committed to providing a first-class, inclusive experience for all. In an approach developed in partnership with Giant Steps, a world leader in autism education and community training, here are some key areas of focus.

Preparing for your Visit

Become familiar with the Bell Centre before your visit by consulting a map of the venue, viewing the location and perspective from your seats, and taking note of the available amenities, here.

For a calmer experience, ticket holders are encouraged to arrive early and use alternate entrances than the main public entrance on avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal, such as by the Place des Canadiens entrance or Lucien-L’Allier entrance, which is connected by an indoor pedestrian network to the metro and commuter train stations of the same name.

Bell Centre Tours

Admission to guided tours of the Bell Centre is free at all times for those accompanying a person with a disability or special needs and presenting a Companion Leisure Card (CAL) issued by the Association québecoise pour le loisir des personnes handicapées (AQLPH).

Employee Training

Bell Centre team members have received training on how to best support autistic guests and their families.

Sensory Considerations

Sensory kits are available for loan during hockey games and events at the Client Experience counters (sections 123, 330 and 430). Included in the sensory kits are noise-reducing headphones, sensory tangle, stress ball, sunglasses, a GoPop! popper, as well as a timer.

Communication Aids

Communication boards are available at the Client Experience counters at sections 123, 330 and 430. An augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device, such as a tablet is welcome in the Bell Centre.

Concessions

To avoid lineups, consider using mobile ordering for concession food orders through the Canadiens’ app or by scanning the QR code affixed to the seats. View quick service food options here

Sensory-Friendly Shopping

Place your order with Tricolore Sports ahead of the event and pick up at the main store rather than browsing during the game. The individual whose name is associated with the order must be the one to present themselves at the store for order pickup. Please bring a piece of photo identification and a copy of the bill for your order. Once your order is ready for pickup, you will receive an email. For more information, contact Tricolore Sports at [email protected] or 514-989-2836.

Note that the Tricolore Sports at the Bell Centre holds sensory-friendly hours on Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon by adapting lights, turning off music and screens.

Service Dogs

Service dogs are welcome at the Bell Centre.
